Porn Statistics

Call me a nerd but I am fascinated by statistics of internet searches on porn sites. I feel like ever since I read A Billion Wicked Thoughts, I am very sensitive to the fact that the only way to gather accurate data about who really likes what, who is really looking for what and what our habits are around sex, is to use our cumulative searches on the web. Otherwise everyone lies, to each other and to themselves.

Every year PornHub, the largest (I believe) porn site in the world produces a statistical report in December on searches that year. It’s fascinating.

“Nearly 92 billion videos were watched over the course of 23 billion visits to the site by many millions of very horny visitors. That’s 64 million visitors per day, or 44,000 every minute. Collectively, that’s 4.6 billion hours of porn watching stuffed into just one year. Isn’t that amazing?”

I kid you not. In the U.S. the most searched for terms were, “step-mom,” “lesbian” and “step sister” in that order. Can someone please explain that to me??

Also, it seems that our porn users are really into fantasy. That explains how “Overwatch” made it into the top search terms. Never heard of “Overwatch?” Neither had I! Goes to show what how out of touch I am.

“An all-new term that shot into our top search terms lists of 2016 is ‘Overwatch’, in reference to the popular video game released earlier this year. Well known for its fast action and overtly sexualized characters, the game quickly became the subject of hundreds of fantasy porn parodies and tribute videos.”  It’s nice for me to know people still have their imagination.

And we women? We are most interested in lesbian porn – all of us.  Yet another statistic I can share with my straight female patients who worry about their women on women fantasies!! You, my dear, and the rest of the world.

Anyhow, if you want more information, read Pornhub’s 2016 Year in Review.

Have fun!
